The Stanley Cup is one of the most hotly contested competitions in American sport. Not only is it the most important ice hockey championships, outside of maybe the Olympics; it is also famous for having one of the biggest trophies in world sport with the cup nearly as tall as the skaters playing for it. It is a good sport to bet on as there is always plenty of action and especially some good value when it comes to futures betting.
Mike Babcock's Detroit Redwings are again favourites to make it back to back titles. Williamhill.com has them currently at a very inviting $3.50. They are out in front in the Western Conference again and are going for their 12th title. The team from Detroit has been the most consistent team in the last twenty years and offer the city some comfort from their other under achieving professional teams. The San Jose Sharks are the clear second pick at $4.50. The Sharks are playing excellent hockey at the moment and could certainly offer some stiff opposition for the Redwings. The other teams under 10/1 are Boston Bruins and the New Jersey Devils who are at $7.50 and $8.00 respectively. Both of these teams have a chance but I would be looking for a little better value if I was looking to take a team outside of the two top picks. The Calgary Flames appear to be the best of the Canadian teams $11.00, from the Vancouver Canucks at $19.00 who will need a lot of luck if they are to take the trophy back over the border.
