Match Play golf is very exciting to watch. It is hard to bet on because you can back someone who gets knocked out by a freak round even if they play consistently. The Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona is an excellent tournament and there should be some excellent value if you can get lucky.
The big story is the return of Tiger Woods who resumes from a long layoff after injury. If this was a normal tournament I would be running over broken glass to back the champion but match play conditions don't suit him first up I think. Sportsbet.com.au has him at $5.50 to win which I think is far too short and I would recommend looking elsewhere for better value. The American lefty Phil Mickelson appears to be hitting some form and is the second favourite at $17.00. This appears to be a good price and he will be very hard to beat if he can get through his first few rounds. The crowd will be right behind him and he is one of those golfers who starts to really play well when his confidence is up. The Australian Geoff Ogilvy represents some excellent value at around $30.00. He is a very consistent golfer who loves to get the job done. The only problem is that he will have to dodge any freak rounds as his consistency is his strength. The young gun Camilo Villegas at around $40.00 is another one that represents value. He is the opposite of Ogilvy as his biggest problem will be avoiding 1 bad round which will put him out of the tournament. He is capable of anything on his day and if he can get through the first 3 or 4 rounds then he is certainly capable of winning the whole thing. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
