What is the future of one day (or 50 over) cricket? That is the question on everyone's lips at the moment in the cricket world. As far as I am concerned I think the game is dead and buried. Test cricket for me is truly one of the best sports on the planet. Simple humans can't understand the complexity of the game, which is just fine. God created soccer for them.
20/20 cricket to me is everything one day cricket tried to be. It is fast, exciting, colourful, and the masses love it. The 50 over game was a godsend as it bankrolled the real game for years, but it should now stand aside and accept that the 20/20 game is for the masses and test cricket is for the purists. That now brings us to the World Cup which is set down for 2011. This should be the swan song of the game. The last dance the final curtain, goodbye and good riddance. The last World Cup in the West Indies was a poorly managed snorefest that had everyone tired and irritated by the end. This one will be no different. One day old fuddy duddies running world sport will realise that modern day sport needs to move with the times. Let us just pray that test cricket isn't damaged by some old morons trying to hold onto the 50 over version. Ladbrokes is offering a market on the 2011 World Cup and hopefully this will be a historic bet as it should be the last one ever held. Australia and India are equal favourites at $4.00. The South Africans certainly appear to be the value at $8.00, but as everyone knows it is a long time in cricket and just because they dominate now, doesn't mean they will be strong in a few years. They are, however, far more attractive than England who are also at $8.00. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
