Starspangledbanner Australian horse racing is starting to heat up in more ways than one. The Group 1 Orr Stakes meeting set for this Saturday at Caulfield has been moved to Sunday due to extreme heat. The thermometer is expected to again eclipse the 45 degree mark as Southern Australia swelters in a heat wave.
This is a great decision as no one wants to see racing in such horrible conditions. The race card is an excellent one with the two year olds gearing up for the Blue Diamond Stakes, and many of the best horses in the country are resuming from spells to chase the big dollars in the lucrative Autumn racing carnival in both Sydney and Melbourne.
In the Fillies, Prelude Rostova will again take centre stage against

her own age and sex. She looks to be a classy Fillie and should prove to be too strong. The only problem is the price is going to be very short. If you can get anywhere around evens then you should make some easy money.
The Colts is a much tougher affair which will see Real Saga start favourite at around the $3.50. I am leaning towards the lightly raced Starspangledbanner trained by Leo Corstens. You could get as much as 4/1 about the horse in what appears to be a fairly open affair.
The feature race, the Orr Stakes, is a who's who of Australian racing with 10 of the starting 12 runners being Group 1 winners. For me this race is a lottery so you might want to look for some value. Light Fantastic looks to be the best hope on paper and is always a danger fresh. The only problem is that the price might be too short. Theseo was one of the stars of the spring and looks great value at around $6.00. The only problem is how he will go first up, and what connections are looking to do with him in the next few weeks.
