The AFL preseason comp continues again this weekend. The highlights from last weekend included the Brisbane Lions winning their first game under their new coach Michael Voss, against a fairly disappointed St Kilda. Richmond got over the line against a very undermanned Fremantle. Again I think it is very silly to start predicting anything from preseason games but I think Richmond and Freo are better propositions than St Kilda and the Lions, but those thoughts should be pondered in a few weeks time.
This weekend we will see the last 8 remaining teams kick off their NAB cup campaign. Sportsbet.com.au will be offering competitive markets on all of these games, but you will have to wait till late in the week before you get a quote as no one has any idea who will be playing for the teams on show. Carlton takes on North Friday night in what should be a fairly good game. North always takes this competition seriously and Carlton are expected to be big improvers this year. This will be a close game I am thinking, so you should look for value and monitor the team selections, especially for Carlton. Saturday will see the reigning Premiers Hawthorn take on the reigning wooden spooners Melbourne. I am sure we will see a very watered down Hawthorn taking on a full strength Melbourne. This should mean that the Melbourne Demons shouldn't lose by more than 100. Saturday night will see Geelong host the Crows in Melbourne. Again this should make for tolerable television especially if the Crows play a strong team. On Sunday the competition moves to Manuka oval in Canberra, which should show case what a joke the preseason competition is. Sydney will play Port Adelaide and it will be a very close competition to see who can throw the game without provoking the wrath of the AFL. There is no doubt that both of these sides will feature every rookie and kid on both lists, and you may as well go and watch some kids kick the ball around down at your local park. As we get closer to the season proper the games will improve, but this is one week where I would advise watching rugby in preference to the AFL. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
