Footy's Back - Potter Previews The NAB Cup

The NAB Cup The Australian football preseason is underway with the NAB Cup. This competition really is a joke when it comes to a form guide to the season proper. Some clubs take it seriously where as other clubs appear like they are more than happy to lose. As the pressure of modern day football takes its affect on the players, to play games that don't matter seems a ridiculous waste of time and we will continue to see clubs rest their players in preference to risking injury.
The competition appears here to stay as the powers that be seem excited about having a competition where they can try out a whole host of rule changes that don't need to be made. It is, however, an interesting betting competition and one where

an astute punter can make a few dollars. The thing that you need to look for is teams that are going to take it seriously, play their best team, or are cash strapped. Clubs are more likely to play their better players if they luck it through the first few rounds so that is another thing to take into consideration.
Sportsbet.com.au has an excellent futures market for the NAB cup with the shortest teams at a very juicy $7.00. Collingwood and Geelong are both favourites at $7.00. Collingwood has always tanked this competition but this year they played a full strength team when they travelled to the West and crushed West Coast in the first round. Geelong's list is so good that they will struggle to put a squad together that doesn't reek of class. Both these sides can win it, though I would be greedy and even look for more value.
Freo, Carlton and Richmond are all at $11.00 and have every chance. The winner of the clash between Brisbane and St Kilda this weekend will certainly shorten in from $16.00 and $15.00 respectively. This is a good opportunity to take a gamble and chase a big return before the real stuff kicks off in a few weeks.
