Potter Previews The Weekends Horse Racing

I hate to say it but the Caulfield Race Track is a disgrace. The track bias at last week's Blue Diamond meant that it was next to impossible to win, unless you were at the very front of the field. It really isn't good enough with Group 1 racing on show and such unfair racing conditions. Well hopefully they will get it better this weekend; otherwise we can all look forward to upcoming big races at Flemington, Randwick, Rosehill and Mooney Valley.
The weekend kicks off with an interesting card from Mooney Valley. There are a few interesting races with the main race being the Mooney Valley Night Cup. Banana Man will start the favourite at around $3.00 or 2/1 in the old language. If this was set weights he would be a certainty, but he has to lug around 61 kilos and this is a huge ask which doesn't justify the very short price. Art Success has plenty of class but has been horribly out of form and Red Buttons is untested against quality opposition but has been doing everything right. You should get at least $5.00 about both of these and they seem far better bets to me.
The Group 1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield appears to be a fantastic race with a lot of chances. Alamosa will start favourite at around $2.70 and is certainly the mile specialist in the field. Light Fantastic will start second favourite and is getting his last chance as far as I am concerned. El Segundo should be getting to peak fitness and a suitable distance and if he can find his old form, represents huge value at around $8.00. Time Matters is the interesting horse who is stepping up in grade but has shown great potential. This should be a great race but it is tough to separate them.
The feature race at Rosehill is the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes over 1400 metres and this should also be a cracker of a race. There are many chances but I am going to stick with Destetude. He was scratched last weekend due to the heavy track conditions from a race that I thought he was going to win. This is tougher but he is up against his own age group at weight for age and I think he is very inviting at the each way quote of around $6.00.
