The Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes is run this weekend at Caulfield. I have to say that out of all the Group 1 races held in Australia; this is one of the ones that I care for the least. Firstly it is a two year old race, which I have stated a million times before is the one biggest problem with racing in this country, and secondly it is held at Caulfield; without doubt, Australia's most overrated race course. All that aside, it will be a great day of racing and the race card has 9 very interesting races.
In the Blue Diamond it appears a race between two, with Real Saga flying the flag for the boys and Rostova for the girls. Both have been impressive and both appear lengths in front of their rivals. I really can't split them and they will both start around the 2/1 mark, with probably Rostova being the favourite due to huge local support for the horse. This race has had its fair share of upsets and I think multiple punters could easily find some value in the other runners. They are, however, all babies so it is nearly impossible to line up their limited form and gauge how they will cope with the pressure associated with a big race day. The other Group 1 race is the Oakleigh Plate run over 1100m. Good luck is all I can say here. Look for a horse with reasonable form drawn between barriers 3 and 10 would be my advice, which means Scenic Blast at around 6/1 and Wilander at 7/1 both represent good each way chances. Von Costa De Hero gets his chance against his own age group this start after trying his luck in open WFA company. I like this horse and you will certainly get a price about him tomorrow in the Group 2 D'Urban Stakes. In the other two Group races, I like both the favourites in Theseo and Miss Scarletti, but I would want to be getting no worse than 2/1 about either of them. The big race in Sydney is also very open and I can't separate Desuetude and Gallant Tess and will be very interested to see how Tuesday Joy goes first up. Good luck and good punting and remember sportsbet.com.au has all Australian racing well and truly covered. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
