Will It Be Adelaide Or Brisbane To Reach The A-League Grand Final?

James Potter
Aurelio Vidmar Aurelio Vidmar has been fined by the A League for his comments, after his side was annihilated by the Melbourne Victory for a spot in the A League Grand Final. I have no doubt that his comments were well founded, but you really have to wonder what went through his head. He still has another chance to make the Grand Final when Adelaide hosts Brisbane for the last remaining spot.
The other thing which is surprising is that he had the job sown up at Adelaide for the next few years before he went and crucified the club publicly. He is in a lose/lose situation now, where if his side fails to make the Grand Final or gets murdered by Melbourne again, then he will be seen as the man who rocked a far from sinking
Mansion
ship. Alternatively, if they get everything together then he will be hung for unwarranted criticism. Again I feel for him, as his team certainly needed a kick up the butt to have any chance to turn the season around.
For what it's worth, I think Adelaide will bounce back this weekend and will defeat the Brisbane Strikers to set up a mouth watering Grand Final. Sportsbet.com.au has both teams at $2.60 in the three way 90 minute market, and both teams $1.90 to qualify for the Grand Final. This seems like a very juicy quote as Adelaide would have been very strong favourites before Vidmar's outburst.
The obstacle to climb for the winner is a very high one with a confident, hungry and well drilled Melbourne Victory waiting to host the Final. If nothing else the A League has certainly managed to get people talking about the game of football here in Australia and is slowly starting to market a product that is acceptable to an inexperienced but growing ground swell of support.
