There are a couple of very exciting boxing bouts to look forward to before the end of the year. The two that I find most fascinating, feature two champions who are certainly well past their prime. In the past many of these champions, who are beyond their best, fight inferior opposition for a handy retirement pay day. However, in these cases both fighters are climbing into the ring as rank outsiders.
Roy Jones Junior may be my favourite fighter of all time. I don't think there is any doubt that he doesn't have much to be admired about as a human being but as a fighter he was just simply awesome. He was not just a showman; he was a devastating puncher who possessed speed that had never been seen in the light heavy weight division. He moved up to heavy weight late in his career but it was a shame he wasn't just a little bit bigger and taller as it would have been a treat to see him fight the biggest and the best. He is going to fight Calzaghe who is certainly the real deal. Calzaghe is the man that Anthony Mundine has been running around like a scared child to get away from and Jones will have his work cut out for him against a man who is at his prime. You can get $3.60 about Roy Jones which seems attractive. The great thing about this fight is that whatever happens you can feel that you got your money's worth. If Roy Jones wins then he really will cement himself in boxing folk law and if he gets beaten around then we can laugh at a man who should have stuck to breeding pit bulls long ago. The other fight is the fight between Bernard Hopkins and Kelly Pavlich. Hopkins, like Roy Jones, was a fantastic fighter at his best. He was tough, moved well and had a big heart but again he is coming up against a fighter that should be at his absolute best. Hopkins is also at a very long quote of $3.50 which for a fighter of his class seems like a lot but he will certainly have to turn back the clock. Again the great thing about this fight is that it is an intriguing match up. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
