2008 has seen the emergence of a Chicago Cubs outfit that will be gunning to break the Billy Goat curse on the club. It looks certain that the Cubs will make the play offs and there is no reason why they can't go on and play in the World Series.
The Billy Goat curse started back in 1945, the last time the Cubs were in the World Series. A Greek immigrant had two tickets into the game and took his goat. After much controversy the goat and its owner were thrown out of the ground as other patrons found the smell of the wet goat too much to handle. The owner of the goat then proceeded to put a curse on the club which has lasted now for over 50 years and even though the Cubs have had some great teams they have been unable to make the World Series. There have been many attempts to break the curse including the management allowing goats to be bought into Wrigley Field in attempt to appease any annoyed goats out there that are supposedly holding the Club to ransom. A group of Cubs fan also took a goat down to St Louis and tried to get the goat into a ground. After being ejected they tried to reverse the curse but these attempts have not worked. It will come down to the players to break the curse and this year appears to be their best chance for many years. The Cubs have a huge following in Chicago and the windy city will explode into excitement if the Cubs make the World Series. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
