Golf - US PGA Preview

The British Open was a great tournament even with the absence of the Tiger Woods. Coming into the final round it felt like we had been transported into a time machine with the Great White Shark, himself, Greg Norman on top of the leader board. The newly married Norman, wound back the clock and played some great golf for three rounds and it had many pundits calling for one of sports greatest boil overs. In true Greg Norman fashion he found the last day of a major too much to handle and he slipped away to a credible finish, but not the fairy tale his fans were praying for.

Our sights are now turned to the USPGA which has been over shadowed by the start of the Olympics and an overload of good sport on offer. Greg Norman turned down the offer of a wild card so there won't be any chance of another fairy tale for him but there are many chances in this tournament.

It is pretty much 20/1 the field in a tournament that could easily throw up any number of winners. I think this is the sort of tournament that will be won by a golfer that has a good iron game and can get on a hot streak of mid range puts. For this reason I like Retief Goosen. He has a good record in this type of tournament and should be suited by the conditions. He hasn't been setting the world on fire in recent times but is more than capable of turning it on.
