Volleyball is a sport that makes excellent television. It is one sport that I am amazed hasn't made more of an impact world wide. It does, however, have a huge following in some parts of the world and is enjoyed at the Olympics by all and sundry. As we get down to business end of the volleyball competition we should see if we can find a winner.
The women's competition is one that appears to be very close. The competition may well come down to being fought out between Brazil, Cuba and the USA, though there are some European teams with some sort of chance. Brazil is a hot favourite and hasn't even dropped a set yet in this competition. They appear to be a team full of confidence and at better than evens appear like a solid bet. The Cubans declared well before the Olympics started that they were coming to win the gold and have had two full time teams travelling the globe to preparation. Time will tell if this has been successful. The Americans are always a threat and look to also have a competitive team. The men's competition will also be hotly contended between some excellent teams. The Brazil and US teams are also very strong in the men's but they face strong opposition from the European power-houses of the game. The Italians, Russians and the Polish are all excellent world class teams that can figure in the medals. I probably like the Russians as they seem the best drilled and they are not big on antics but big on winning games. At the very least I suggest you have a look at the game and enjoy the athletic prowess of its players. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
