The Sonny Bill Williams saga seems to keep on growing as the NRL and the Bulldogs try to stop the talented super star from turning his back on the game of rugby league. This is going to be a huge problem for David Gallop and the rugby league administrators, as they try and find a way to stop the bleeding of their stars to other lucrative markets.
I find it a very negative approach if the league just simply admits that the game is turning into a training ground to breed and identify talent for bigger and better arenas and codes. This has to be addressed quickly and NRL may need to increase their salary cap or create funds to retain superstars if they want their game to remain one of the leading codes in the country. League has to compete with rugby, AFL, and now soccer and it appears that in the next five years they could easily lose this race and the game could slip into the realm of insignificance. This weekends games look interesting and I think the Dragons on Monday night should easily account for the Dogs. You could argue that the Bulldogs might want to show Sonny that his departure wasn't the final nail in the coffin of their once great club, but I think there is a huge problem of talent and need to win. The Broncos should show that they are real contenders this year and should beat the Sharks at home and the Rabbitohs look great value with a +8 handicap against the Knights.
