French Open Tennis Preview - Nadal Again?2008-05-14
James Potter
For all the tennis buffs out there, it's not long to wait for the French Open, so let's have another look at the updated quotes for the main draw. Partybets.com is my favourite tennis site because they are always reliable and have all the current games ready to bet on, as well as some interesting options and futures markets.
Firstly let's look at the men's draw. The favourite is still Rafael Nadal at a very short quote of $1.60. He lost only his second ever game on clay recently and I am still not convinced he is at his peak. That is not to say that he won't be hitting his peak at the French Open but saying this I won't be taking the short price about the Spaniard. The Swiss maestro is on the second line of betting and is at $4.50. I have to say that I think this is the best bet in the men's draw. He is on the other side of the draw from that of Nadal and Federrer and knows that to be considered the best ever he must win this tournament at some stage though every year it gets a little harder. If he can scrape his way through the first week and Nadal can find a way to lose, then I don't think anyone else can beat him in the final. Djokovic is certainly one that could prove me wrong. This guy is super good, super consistent and has a temperament that is suited to winning plenty of Majors. He is a clear third pick at $7.00. The fact that there aren't any more runners under 20/1 shows how weak men's tennis is at the moment. A few players have shown positive signs in recent years but none have been able to make the transition into the top level. If you can see anyone else you like in the draw at least you will get a price though it's hard to find anyone who could challenge the top three when it really matters. The woman's draw looks a little more interesting, with many more chances. You could realistically make a case for about the top 12 or so in betting. I am going to give the Serbian duo some support and I think it is time for one of these two to break through at the highest level. Ivanovic is the shorter of the two at $7.00. She had a great trip to the US earlier this year and played well at the Australian Open so the form line is good and clay should suit her game. Jankovic is at $11.00 and does not get the kind of attention her stunning country-women receive, but has plenty of ability and could slip through the draw unnoticed. Hope you can pick a winner early and now would be a good time to log onto Partybets.com and take the juicy prices before they get plucked off. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
