AFL - Round Eight Preview2008-05-15
James Potter
With the majority of players having had a weekend off (and the elite had their exhibition game) we can thankfully get back to business with the resumption of the regular season. The jury is still out about the exhibition game and the arguments will continue as both sides make strong arguments. The game was better than I expected and the players played hard, but a rivalry would take time to entrench itself and gain real passion with fans and players if that was the direction the AFL wants to take. But as I said before, enough of that; let's get back to what really matters.
The break should have been good for the sides with bad records and injuries, and bad for those that were on a roll. The perfect example of this will be when the Bulldogs travel over to the West and play Fremantle. Fremantle will have had two weeks to forget the nightmare of their last game and lift their game against the Dogs. There is a feeling that everyone is just waiting for the Dogs to fall in a hole this season but they are off to a near perfect start and it will continue to get harder from here. St Kilda and Collingwood will be a cracker of a game for two teams desperate to resurrect their year. Hawthorn also will face some serious competition against Port down in Tasmania. North will look to erase a very un-north-like performance against the Crows last time but will have to travel for a home game at the Gold Coast against the hapless Eagles. All in all an interesting weekend with a couple of clutch games for interesting teams and some contests that should be pretty cut and dry affairs. Here are my line tips for the weekend; Collingwood, Port, Geelong, Brisbane, West Coast, Adelaide, Sydney, Fremantle. It might be a good weekend for favourites who should account for some weak opposition if you were thinking of taking a multi bet.
