UFC Mixed Martial Arts Preview2008-04-01
James Potter
Its time to "swing for the fences" or if that doesn't work you might prefer to, "ground and pound". This is some of the language that Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fanatics like myself have become familiar with.
The reason this sport has taken off is that nearly all the fights have something to offer. There is the odd boring fight, but in comparison to boxing where it is common place, in MMA it's a rarity. The other thing that keeps me coming back for more is that the under card fights are just as entertaining as the main event. If you follow the fighters, know their styles, their strengths and weaknesses then there is plenty of interest. On a boxing card the best you can hope for is two unknowns belting the living the hell out of each other before the main event. The next big event coming your way from the UFC, which is the leader in MMA, is the UFC Fight Night on the 2nd of April from the Bloomfield Centre. PartyBets has got a market on the two feature events and I certainly think there is some value in both the underdogs. Thiago "the Pit Bull" Alves takes on Karo Parisyan. They both have similar records and it will be a tough encounter. You can get $2.40 about the "Pit Bull" and I will be having a few dollars on him to chomp apart his opponent in a contest, which on paper, appears to be a very close encounter. In the main event, Kenny Florian the boy from Boston is taking on Joe Lauzon. Kenny Florian has a solid record, but for me, is an over-rated commodity. He is solid but really doesn't posses any explosive moves or big finishes. Lauzon is at a very attractive $2.70 and I think he can defeat his more fancied opponent. If you back both the underdogs you only need one of them to win to turn a profit. There is plenty of good MMA coming up and stay tuned for updates on UFC 83 which will be coming to a pay for view later this month. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
