UFC 83 - Georges St-Pierre v Matt Serra2008-04-13
James Potter
On the 20 April, around 22 000 fans will descend on the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada to witness UFC 83. What a treat they have in store. The main event will feature French Canada's own Georges St Pierre who will face champion Matt Serra. Serra took the title from St-Pierre a year ago in the biggest upset in UFC history. The great thing for fight fans is that nearly all cable outlets will have the card available for purchase and you can log into Partybets.com who have competitive markets on all the fights.
I think St-Pierre will easily defeat Serra. Serra took the ex champ by surprise last time and deserved his win, but mark my words he will be facing a far more focused version of Georges St Pierre this time in the Octagon. PartyBets has St Pierre at $1.25 and even though the price is a little short I will be taking him in a parlay with some other fighters. England's Micheal "the Count" Bisping is just an awesome fighter. He won the Light Heavyweight version of Ultimate Fighter 3, the reality television show, and he has every weapon available in his arsenal. He can stand there and fight toe to toe with good punches, kicks and can even land flying knees that leaves his opponents wondering what hit them. He is also an excellent opponent of jujitsu and his ground work and submissions are spot on. PartyBets has him at $1.27 to beat McCarthy and I think if you take a double with Bisping and St Pierre you won't be far off the mark. The other great fight of the night sees two fighters at different stages of their career. Former champion Rich Franklin has been a long way from his best in the last two years. He is an excellent all round fighter and if he gets back to his best will be very hard to beat. He takes on Ultimate Fighting Season 4 champion Travis Lutter. Lutter is also well rounded and is certainly hungry enough to make this a very interesting fight. Lutter is currently at $2.70 and I think this is excellent value. Franklin should be the favourite but I think the $1.33 on offer is a little skinny. The hardest thing about this fight is that they are both likable personalities so it's hard to really cheer one on against the other; unless you have a few $$$ riding on the result that is. If you are bored of boxing and want to see some really good fighting get into the UFC, you won't be disappointed as all the fights on the card are worth watching. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
