NRL - Round Six Preview2008-04-17
James Potter
In their most impressive win this year the New Zealand Warriors bashed and bruised their way to a decisive 20 point win against the Bulldogs last weekend. Considering they trailed 12-10 at half time their second half was inspirational. Anyone who thinks the Warriors will be easy prey this year have another thing coming. The Warriors took a nose dive in betting before the season started with some key season-ending injuries in trail games but expect them to start firming up again. Ruben Wiki, the Warriors captain said after the game;
"Our defence was strong and showed some character. Defence wins games and we showed that we really improved from last week; we've still got a lot to work on but I am really proud of the boys." The other good win over the weekend were the North Queensland Cowboys who have won their last two in impressive style after a disastrous start to the season. The Saints in front of a parochial home crowd played reasonable football but the Cowboys through some masterful leadership from one of the games greatest, Jonathan Thurston did enough to ground out an important win. This weekend will have league fans lining up to watch with some interesting betting affairs. Friday night promises a barn storming start to affairs with the Titan and the Broncos squaring of at the Gold Coast. Both teams have tasted four victories with only one defeat and this promises to be some sort of game. The vocal home town crowd might be enough for the Titans to cause an upset but one thing that is certain is the Broncos are a team that travels well and is used to pressure games… and yes I am sitting on the fence here. Parramatta also hosts Manly on what shapes as a busy Friday night. I am going to give the Eels one more chance to come up with a victory. Coach Michael Hagan would have been disgusted with his team's performances in the last two weeks and you would think that motivation won't be a problem for the Eels. The rest of the round is pretty tough with the market appearing to be in the right spot. My line selections in the other games are as follows but only use as a guide as I think this is a hard round; Cowboys, Sharks, Rooster, Dragons, Rabbitohs and Melbourne.
