Can the Great One Add Another Masters?2008-04-09
James Potter
As far as I am concerned the number one golf tournament held every year is the US Masters. I love the fact that it is held in the same place because we get to know the famed Augusta National Course. We know what holes play hard, we have seen people crumble under pressure and we have seen the champions do what they do best. It simply is one of the greatest sporting events around.
The first question you should always ask yourself when it comes to golf is 'can Tiger Woods be beaten?' If the Great One brings his A grade game he wins. If he brings his B grade game he still probably wins. He is, however, human (only just) and he can very occasionally have a bad tournament and not win. If you could find $2.50 or 6/4 in the old language I would love to be on him. That leaves the rest and there are some chances at some pretty juicy odds. I have always thought that South African Retief Goosen will win a Masters one of these days. He is just silky smooth and can run really hot when things start to go his way. You can expect to get as good as $30.00 about the Goose. When we talk South Africans you can never discount the Big Easy, Ernie Els who also represents great value at around the same quote as Goosen. Els hasn't been in the best of form but he is good enough to find form when it matters and has the experience that could make the difference if it is a tight Sunday afternoon. You might like to have a little dip about some of the young European brigade who have shown lots of ability but have never had the break through. Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia certainly fit into that bracket at around 40/1 and 50/1 respectively both offer good value. Niclas Fasth is also another young European who could put up a good showing at the very juicy odds of 150/1. I think Mickelson is far too short at around 12/1. The other American I like is Steve Stricker at around 60/1. The other nationality that might cause a boil over is the Australians with a large contingency. Ogilvy is in great form and is threatening to break into the top echelon but I have to say that I really like Stuart Appleby who has a great game, experience at Augusta and is very attractive at around 100/1. Sit back guys and enjoy one of the true sporting spectacles and watch history write its own pages as it tends to do at the picturesque surrounds of the Augusta Georgia. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
