Tennis - Sony Ericsson Preview2008-03-30
James Potter
For all the tennis fans there is plenty of action for both the men and the women in the Sony Ericsson Championship being held in Miami over the next week. Nice hot sun and some good tennis bring out good crowds for this event and the fields are of excellent standards with only a few of the top names missing.
In the men's draw we have the Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic trying to defend his title. He was very impressive winning last years final against Guillermo Cannas easily in straight sets but he might find it a little tougher this year with a potential showdown with Roger Federer. The Fed Express has been a little down over the past few months but I am expecting this just might be his tournament. A year ago he would have been odds on to win this from the start but you can get some good value on him as many expect Djokovic to repeat his 07 result. If you're looking for value then there is plenty available if you think the top two aren't certainties. All the regular second tier names such as Nadal, Roddick and Murray are there and you can get a great price. My advice would be to back these guys in the early rounds but I think it might be tough for them when the business end of the tournament comes around as Djokovic and Federer are both suited to the conditions and surface. The ladies draw, as it has in recent times, appears to be a little more open even though some of the big names haven't made it to Miami this week. Serena Williams is the reigning champion who last year won an incredible final last year defeating Justine Henin. Williams dropped the first set 6-0 to come away with a remarkable 0-6 7-5 6-3 victory. Both of them are back this year and are both at shortish prices to win the tournament. The form player in the ladies game at the moment is Anna Ivanovic. The Serbian glamour will be trying to win two titles in a row and I see no reason why she isn't capable. I am also a little bias as I enjoy watching her play tennis and the deeper she goes in any tournament, the better for all concerned. You can bet on all games at PartyBets. They have an incredible amount of options and for me are the best book when it comes to having a punt on the tennis. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
