French Open Tennis Preview2008-03-31
James Potter
Start chilling the champagne, load up on baguettes and brie and say bonjour to the French Open. It's getting towards the time of year where the European base-line sluggers come out of their holes to bash away on the red clay of Roland Garros.
In what is considered the 3rd biggest tournament of the year the French Grand Slam is always highly anticipated. The real hype behind the tournament in recent times is the inability of Roger Federer to win the tournament. Like Sampras before him, the slow surface certainly doesn't suit and he has never been able to make the break through. The French Open stands in the way of tennis immortality for Federer, who with a victory this year will cement himself as the greatest to ever hold a racket. PartyBets has him at a very inviting $3.50. Being a sucker for history I will certainly be having a little piece of the price on offer. The obvious man who stands in his way is the Spanish Bull Rafael Nadal. The man has simply been unbeatable on clay in recent times and certainly deserves to be the favourite. The $1.65 on offer is a little short for me and I will be hoping his winning stretch comes to an end. Djokovic seems to be reasonable value at $7.00 and JC Ferrero at $41.00 is a good rough chance, even though his recent form has not been up to the standard of years gone by. In many ways the women's draw seems more open with many realistic chances. I think there are as many as 15 chances especially if you think Henin and Sharapova are far from the only two certainties. Henin is short at $2.50 and Sharapova is also pretty skinny at $4.50. Every other runner is over $7.00 and there is some real value. Ivanovic, apart from being very easy on the eye, is at $10 and the comeback queen Davenport is not without a chance at the very juicy return of $26. So my suggestion is jump on PartyBets and look for a girl at a good price in an open affair. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
