AFL - Round Two Preview2008-03-26
James Potter
One week down and season 2008 looks like being a cracker. Hawthorn and Essendon were dominant in big wins. The Doggies and Pies were both excellent in solid home ground wins. St Kilda and Geelong did enough against strong opposition and Richmond and West Coast both recorded rusty wins. I got off to a good start tipping 3 from 4 and I just hope I don't suffer from the second week blues.
On the downside there were some pretty woeful performances. The worst of the weekend were Melbourne who were a rabble at best. They appear to have a bad list and are suffering from a lack of pride and passion. The Demons should be on the top of the list of Melbourne Clubs that need to be swallowed up by the national competition. The other big losers were Carlton, North Melbourne and Adelaide who all started favourites, had big leads and all let their opposition come away with the 4 points. I don't know about you, but I always find the next few weeks of AFL seasons very hard to pick. After the interesting results in the first round, the games in round 2 appear tantalising, but not easy to pick. I will, however, not let this excuse get in the way and I will try and point you towards a few winners. The Bombers were great this weekend but, they face more than a mountain this weekend against last years Premiers Geelong. The Cats won well on the road against Port in round 1, but they nearly let the Power back into the game late. This should provide plenty of inspiration for the Premiers and with the Bombers having a short week to recover, Geelong should prove too strong. The press have murdered the Fremantle Dockers and look for a huge improvement over the Hawks, who have to travel after the easiest of victories in week 1. The other good bet of the round is the Bulldogs. They should beat the Demons easily. Teams tend to bounce back after thrashings but they are so bad and this win is just so important for the Doggies. The rest are very hard. My handicap tips are as follows but tread with care. Brisbane, West Coast, Sydney, Kangaroos and Carlton.
