Fantastic Australian Open Promotion at PartyBets2008-01-10
Tristan Heffernan
If you're thinking of having a bet on the Australian Open, then look no further than the latest promotion from PartyBets.
If you make at least a $20 bet on who you think will win the Australian Open men's' tournament, Partybets will give you a free $20 bonus providing Roger Federer reaches the final. If you saw how Federer has got the job done in the first two rounds – reaching the final should not be a problem. To take advantage of this offer, you must place your bet before the quarter final stage. If you can manage to snag the other finalist then you can avail yourself to a nice betting opportunity coming into the final. The problem though is who to back? With the offer only being available if Federer makes the final, it makes sense to look at the bottom half of the draw so your selection won't come up against Federer until the final. This would make Novak Djokovic a less appealing option than at first glance, as if he makes the final it would mean he has knocked off Federer along the way and the bonus offer would be void. The obvious second favourite is the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who cruised past Florent Serra in the second round, and has proven himself over the last few years to be a clear no. 2 in the world behind Roger the Great. However Nadal has never performed to his peak down under, which means his half of the draw is not cut and dried. The American Andy Roddick comes into the event full of steam after yet another Kooyong lead up victory, and has shown himself to be in good touch in his first two rounds. At a touch better price than Nadal he could be worth a look, although Nadal had his measure easily in the last clash last year in Indian Wells. My personal choice would be the Russian Mikhail Youzhny. At odds in excess of 50-1, he represents huge value. One only has to look at his success in Chennai earlier in the month, when he gave Nadal the hiding of his life, taking the title 6-0 6-1. Youzhny was in ripping form during last year's hard court season, even to the point where he was considered a live chance to beat Federer in Dubai, going through Nadal on his way to the final the week after beating the likes of Djokovic and Ljubicic to take the title in Rotterdam. If he can keep up his current level of form throughout the Melbourne fortnight, then he looks a great way to kick start your own New Year of punting. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
