Clash of the Titans in this weeks EPL2007-12-15
James Young
An epic weekend of football for lovers world-wide, with four titans of the football universe clashing in a weekend that could shape the rest of the EPL season.
Arsenal has been nothing short of fantastic this season, written off by many before the start of the year, they have shown their doubters wrong with fluid football and a penchant for scoring the impossible. They have scored in every game they have played, even with injuries to key players taking their toll. Having ridden the injury crisis, they look forward to midfield maestro Cesc Fabregas rejoining the fray alongside Robin Van Persie and Alexander Hleb. Fabregas is the clubs leading scorer this season across all fronts with 11 goals, and Emmanuel Adebayor has been a menace to opposition defenses in the EPL, scoring nine goals to take a share of the lead in the Golden Boot alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. Chelsea will need to control their defensive half of the pitch with more energy than usual, as Arsenal has never lost when Adebayor has scored. In direct opposition to previous season's agenda's, Chelsea has been unassuming since Avram Grants appointment, choosing efficiency over grandeur in a bid to boost results. They have gathered results home and away, and their new attacking lease has re-ignited the dimmed flame in many players. Michael Essien and Didier Drogba will be missed as well as Michael Ballack, while Chelsea will be hoping that Ricardo Cavarlho and Florent Malouda can come back from injury and provide instant tenacity and spark on the pitch This will be a test of who is willing to fight harder for longer as two traditional rivals take to the pitch, but with Chelsea missing class in key posts and away from home, Arsenal should get the three points and the odds of $2.60 available at PartyBets are too enticing for mine. In the other colossal clash, Manchester United take on a Liverpool side on a scintillating run on home soil at Anfield in a bid to grasp the lead off a determined Arsenal side. Manchester United has regained their form of last year and is showing flair coupled with resolve that has seen them catapult up the ladder and only a win away from regaining a fleeting hold on the leadership race. Alex Ferguson will have already put this match down as one that will ignite passion and rivalry, even before the Gabriel Heinze saga that encapsulated much of the off-season, as United are keen to keep their strangle hold of recent times over the Reds. United have a clean slate of health, with England defensive midfielder Owen Hargreaves recovering from his calf injury he sustained during the warm-up against Derby. Liverpool was flirting with fluctuating form, but Rafa Benitez has them out of their inconsistent slump and channeling all energy towards a Liverpool side capable of destroying teams. Xabi Alonso returns after two months on the sidelines, and his vision and passing will be much appreciated as he looks increasingly likely to start on the pitch that will resemble a battlefield at the end of the game as the two teams look to embarrass the other. Fernando Torres has set Liverpool alight as of late with eleven goals in all forms of competitions and six in the premiership alongside Captain Steven Gerrard, who also has six. This has the potential to be a match that could be talked about for seasons to come, but I feel Manchester United have substance behind them united with a belief that they can conquer anything. There is odds of $2.63 available at PartyBets but United should prove too strong. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
