Tottenham the value at PartyBets this week with a NO JUICE Market!2007-12-08
James Young
This week's feature match involves the fallen Tottenham Hotspurs, taking on the high-flying Manchester City at White Hart Lane in a match that Tottenham need to win to rise up the table once again.
The mighty have fallen, and the fans have spoken. Martin Jol left White Hart Lane earlier this season with a shadow of the prestige that he once held, and was quickly replaced by the Spaniard Juande Ramos who promised results and secured them. The team has looked brand-new since his entrance, showing a lot more of the stylish attacking play that was once their hallmark. Their stand-in-captain Robbie Keane will be missed after being suspended for three matches following a red card at Birmingham, but they have plenty of attacking depth in the form of Jermain Defoe, Darren Bent and the Enigmatic Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov. The defense will still be under-strength without Captain Ledley King, although he is on track in his recovery after he played a midweek game for the reserves side Manchester City has looked listless in recent weeks since the whitewash at Stamford Bridge, not looking like the free-wheeling and fun-filled side of before. Instead, a clamp has been locked over their attacking ability with their lack of a quality striker finally catching up to them. They have not scored more than one goal in a match, and have won three times, and drawn twice, often in lucky circumstances. Sven Goran Eriksson will need to find the antidote to the sides woe's quickly. Elano will hopefully be making a comeback, adding a spark to the Citizens attacking frays. I can see the match ebbing and flowing as each team try's to find its attacking edge, but I give the Spurs the home advantage in this contest. You can find odds of $2.15 at PartyBets for Tottenham. The other value match involves Aston Villa and Portsmouth at Villa Park, where the Villains have secured many points already this season. Aston Villa has not raised the same amounts of acclaim as its rival in this contest, but maybe it should have, as they both lay equal and are only separated by goal difference. They play an uncompromising style of football, accentuated by English central midfielder Gareth Barry. They also at times play fluent football, with lightening fast winger Ashley Young often chipping in. They perhaps lack the all-round finishing quality of some teams, but Gabriel Agbonlahor has netted six times in the campaign, providing problems for many teams. They also have a gluttony of midfielders providing a threat all over the park. Portsmouth has raised headlines with their attacking displays and goal-scoring feats in recent times, but has lacked the presence at home to bring them even more plaudits. Portsmouth has seemingly in unbeatable form away from home, where they have won their last six in a row, but the same form has eluded them in front of their fans, with only one victory in six. They will be looking however, to carry their away form and steal the points away from a committed Aston Villa side, but will need more than the performance dished up last week in a spiritless and dull display against Everton, which finished in a draw. Portsmouth have been the high-flyers this season, but I think that Aston Villa have slipped under many peoples radars and will surprise in this contest. I would take the $2.05 on offer at PartyBets.
