The racing spotlight is once again on Flemington this Saturday for the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. There are two Group 1 races on the card with the sprinters doing battle in the Age Classic and the best milers in the land clashing in the Emirates Stakes. Both races have an element of intrigue with Gold Edition and Miss Andretti renewing their rivalry in the Age Classic, and crack 3yo Weekend Hussler taking on the older horses for the first time in the Emirates Stakes. Although six horses will face the starter in the Age Classic it is clearly a match race between the two gun sprinting mares. Miss Andretti leads 2-0 in the head to head battles with Gold Edition and easily accounted for her in the Schweppes Stakes two weeks ago at Moonee Valley. Saturday's race will be more to Gold Editions liking as she has struggled to get round Moonee Valley in her two runs there and in her two starts down the straight at Flemington she has won by a combined 11 lengths. The secret for Gold Edition to turn the tables on Miss Andretti tomorrow is for her to run along in front to keep it from being a sit & sprint affair. No horse in the country could out sprint Miss Andretti over 400m and Gold Edition's best runs have generally been when she has been allowed to run along in front at a solid pace. Having said that Miss Andretti will be right on the tail of Gold Edition and having the last crack at her which ever way the race is run. Although not a betting proposition at her current price ($1.36) she looks almost impossible to go past. The second feature race for the day is the Emirates Stakes featuring Caulfield Guineas winner Weekend Hussler. He will go around as a short priced favourite ($2.00) but is by no means over the line. Sonic Quest was a very impressive winner of the Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley and looks as though he will appreciate the wide open spaces of Flemington. A minor query might be gate 2 as he likes to have clear galloping room and by race time tomorrow the track is likely to be favouring those out past the middle of the track. Wonderful World is dropping back from a great 2nd in the Cox Plate and is a specialist at the 1600 metres. Divine Madonna showed last week that she was able to backup from a Cox Plate run and win a Group 1 so that shouldn't be a problem for Wonderful World who will be trying to emulate Testa Rossa to achieve this feat in recent years. Other highlights on the 9 race card include the Queen Elizabeth Stakes where Completion will be looking to atone for an unlucky run on Tuesday and the Hilton International Stakes for the mares where Translate will be looking to extend her good form at a mile out to the 2000 metres.
