Arsenal and AC Milan both great odds in the Champions League2007-11-27
James Young
The match with most value this week, is one that will have soccer tragics around the world salivating. The prospect of two of the most attractive football teams, in Arsenal and Sevilla, going head to head in a clash that could well determine Sevilla's fate in the prestigious Champions League, is certainly one to look forward to.
Arsenal will come into the match with supreme confidence after wins either side of the international break that have left them three points atop of the Premier League table with a game in hand. The Gunners know they can beat Sevilla after a 3-0 win at home last time these teams met, and will be keen to show the same intensity that garnered that result. The same cannot be said for the Andalucían giant. Their form has taken a nose dive after the release of Juande Ramos to Tottenham, with losses to Mallorca, Villarreal and a draw at minnows Denia. The Spanish side was one to be feared last season, and underestimated at your peril, but this is not the same side. Daniel Alves has had a stunning loss of form, and the team is stuttering. Freddie Kanoute and Luis Fabiano are ever-present as a goal-scoring threat, but do not have the support of years gone by and the team is losing hard-gained respect. However, they do look likely to progress from the group after easy wins over Slavia Prague and Steaua Bucharest. Arsenal are fantastic value here, with $3.20 on offer at Sportsbet Australia. for a team that is atop of the most exciting football competition on earth, against a team that is in a rut and struggling to get out, even at home. The other value match this weekend is the Italian colossus AC Milan taking on the pint sized Portuguese Benfica at the Estádio da Luz in Portugal. José Antonio Camacho's team goes into their penultimate Group D fixture at the Estádio da Luz three points adrift of Shakhtar Donetsk and Celtic. However, a victory against Milan will allow them to keep hope for another but a draw will also suffice if the Celtic-Shakhtar match in Glasgow finishes all-square. They will need to be on their best form if they want to knock off the reigning European champions. Milan will be looking to book their place in the knock-out stages with a repeat of their victory over Benfica at the San Siro (2-1). Carlos Ancelotti's men will progress with a win, and they will only need a draw if there is a result at Glasgow in the meantime. They have been much improved as of late, picking up points against Shakhtar Donetsk with Gilardino and Seedorf both bagging braces at the San Siro, and leading European scorer Filippo Inzaghi snatching two goals, and Pirlo a third away from home. AC is good value in this match and you can find odds of up to $2.30 for Milan at Sportsbet Australia. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
