Barclay's Premier League Previews2007-10-26
James Young
This is perhaps a season defining game for the boys in both forms of blue. Manchester City takes on the might of Chelsea at home, but with Chelsea showing signs of cracking, and City excelling. Will Chelsea's stronghold of Stamford Bridge provide the antidote for Avram Grant's men or will Sven's Army provide an upset and take the three points' home.
Stamford Bridge has provided Chelsea with an impenetrable fortress as of late, with 68 games without defeat, but Manchester City this will test the star studded team's mettle. Since Jose Mourinho's exit the players have shown less than 100% percent and they are vulnerable. Manchester City may just be the team to take that chance, as they are a proven test to team's this season. They have a settled lineup and an exciting style, something that couldn't always be said about the Citizens. However, if Chelsea performs like the side that has provided such a formidable foe for the upper echelon of the Premier League the past few campaigns, City will be hard pressed to get a result out of the game. But with the odds on show City are too hard to resist when compared to their form this season. This could be a scorcher of a game, but with injuries taking a toll on Chelsea and Manchester City exhibiting a test even away from home, I am drawn towards a win for the Citizens, or at least a stalemate. But Chelsea bouncing back and showing their true spirit would not surprise me in the least. The game that viewers will tune into from every corner of the globe this week involves top of the table Arsenal taking on the might of Liverpool at home. Rafa Benitez's rotation policy at Valencia won him many plaudits, but the same can not be said about his tenure at Liverpool, with his team lacking continuity and flourish. This is something that Arsenal can take advantage of with their attacking game style and fluid passing. Arsenal have taken the Premier league by storm this year, showing a mettle and steel, combined with their tantalizing lead up play, and an unbeaten run showing with fourteen wins in succession. Liverpool will be hard pressed holding them even at home. Robin van Persie is injured for the visitors, but Emmanuel Adebayor has stood up in his absence, netting 6 times in the premier league. Influential midfielder Cesc Fabregas has goaled 9 times in all competition for the Gunners. Fernando Torres has scored 7 times for Liverpool, with 4 in EPL matches, but has been rotated in and out of the starting squad, infuriating the Kop. In my opinion, Liverpool will not have the form to overcome the red-hot Gunners, but expect this one to go right down to the wire, with top four clashes always producing some fireworks.
