Novelty Betting: Celebrity Big Brother2007-01-17
Paul Sandells
The UK's Celebrity Big Brother is not often controversial enough to make national headlines. However, this week has seen the Endomol show face a barrage of criticism following alleged racists remarks by some of the contestants.
The ferocity of the storm surrounding Celebrity Big Brother right now is such that Paddy Power are offering 10/1 on the show not reaching a conclusion this year! The show's sponsors, Carphone Warehouse, are a short looking 11/8 to pull out of backing the show. More appealing are the contestant markets. VC Bet cover the Outright Winner market only but offer an attractive 11/8 for the "bullied" Shilpa Shetty. Shetty has been the victim of a back-stabbing campaign from many of the celebs remaining. The abuse the Bollywood star has suffered has been labelled as racist by many tabloid newspapers. The sympathy vote has propelled Shetty into the favourite's slot. Cleo Rocos is the close second favourite at 11/4. Meanwhile, the other females in the house face an uphill struggle according to VC Bet. Punters can almost name their price on Danielle Lloyd winning. Teddy Sheringham's girlfriend is a huge 50/1. Jo O`Meara is also a big price at 25/1. Jade Goody, a former contestant in a previous Big Brother series, falls into the "Any other" category in the Outright Winner market. Blue Square offer 9/1 for "Any other". Jade is at the centre of the race storm and has been chopped from 5/1 to 5/6 to be the next evicted housemate. Controversy and falling viewing figures have hit the Big Brother brand hard recently. A poor quality list of celebrities and perhaps an overkill of these type of programmes have seen viewers switch to other prime time programming. A market on how long Big Brother will last is not currently available however, at this rate, it is surely a matter of when rather than if the show is axed. Ed note: Big Brother betting and all major sport markets are on offer at VC Bet where a £20 match bet is available to new customers News CategoriesRSS xml feed
