Australia 1/100 to Deliver Whitewash Mauling2007-01-04
Paul Sandells
If it was a boxing match, it would've been stopped weeks ago. England are on the brink of a 5-0 Ashes whitewash after Shane Warne rubbed England's nose in it with the bat this time!
Warne knocked an outstanding 71, from just 65 balls, in a batting display that had more of a one day match look about it than a tense 5 day Ashes test. Despite announcing his retirement, Warne is still clearly fired up for the last test of this Ashes series. Australia took a 1st innings lead of 102 runs, after eventually ending on 393 all out. Three words then sprung to the mind of cricket fans "England batting collapse" as the Aussies ran riot with the ball in hand. An embarrassing stumping of skipper Flintoff concluded a miserable 2nd innings start for England as they lost 5 wickets for just 114 runs. With those 5 wickets remaining and a lead of just 12 runs for England, Ladbrokes have cut Australia to 1/100 for victory. Clearly only an act of God can save England from a whitewash and red faces all round. England are quoted at 22/1 with the "Magic Sign" and the draw is 66/1. Weather, however, doesn't appear to have any chance of stopping this match and Australia's relentless march to a 5-0 drubbing of England.
