Emperor's Price Slashed for 2000 Guineas2006-08-23

Holy Roman Emperor saw it's price slashed to 6/1 (7.00) from 16s (17.00) after an impressive victory at The Curragh in Ireland. The Aidan O'Brien trained horse shocked bookmakers into action after Kieran Fallon rode home in outstanding fashion.
Controversial Kieran Fallon, who is clearly still in favour over in Ireland despite a ban on racing in the UK, cruised to victory on the Emperor after bursting through the pack to win the Independent Waterford Wedgwood Phoenix Stakes. This was trainer Aidan O'Brien's eighth win in the race. A spokesman for Totesport, Damian Walker, said: "This performance had 2000 Guineas written all over it and we were seriously impressed. "We saw money for the colt this morning and cut him to 16/1 from 20s for the 2000 Guineas and now we know why. "George Washington landed the 2005 Phoenix Stakes on the way to 2000 Guineas glory and stablemate Holy Roman Emperor could easily do the same." Coral quickly followed suit and dropped their price to 6/1 too. Coral Spokesman, David Stevens, enthused, "We couldn't help but be impressed by that performance." Ante-post punters were still piling into the 6/1 on offer last night. How long this price will remain is uncertain as the Emperor's snowball gathers momentum.
