World Cup Semi-Finals Betting Markets2006-07-02
Paul Sandells
The World Cup is nearing completion. Hosts Germany, France, Italy and Portugal make up the four European teams all with hopes of lifting the famous trophy. There are some very interesting markets available for the penultimate games.
Tuesday (the 4th) and Wednesday (the 5th) see the World Cup semi finals taking place. On the 4th, the impressive hosts Germany take on a strong looking Italian team. Italy have had a relatively easy path to the semis. However, apart from the Australia game, they have never really looked in any trouble and it will take a very good performance by the Germans to knock-out Totti and co. As with the quarter final games, punters should expect a low scoring affair here. The draw is attractive at 2/1 (3.0) with Bet 365. The total goals market is short on the side of "Under 2.5 goals" at 1.45 - this does appear to be a solid bet, though. Striker, Klose, is on fire right now so expect short prices on the German marksmen to score at any time. A more attractive bet might be the first goal market. Klose is sure to be amongst the favourites. Why not back him as first goalscorer and last goal scorer. The first goal could settle this match. Germany vrs Italy - 20:00 GMT on July 4th A more exciting game should occur on Wednesday, as Portugal take on a much improved France. France outplayed Brazil for long periods in their quarter final match-up. Zidane and Henry are looking like they are finalling get their acts together. Portugal with be buoyed by their victory over England in the quarters. Both nations will be desperate to win this one. The experience of France should tell in the end here and they appear outstanding value at Even money (2.0) with Bet 365 against Portugal - who will surely be drained after their mammoth encounter with England. Portugal vrs France - 20:00 GMT on July 5th Germany and France would appear to be an interesting double here, 6/5 and Evens for the pair. Good luck.
