French Formula 1 Grand Prix2006-07-13
Paul Sandells
This weekend seens the Formula 1 action head to French circuit Magny Cours. Flying Fernando Alonso looks the likely short priced favourite but there could be better value elsewhere.
Alonso's closest rival, Michael Schumacher, is priced at 7/4 on Bet 365. With Alonso at 8/11, there appears little value in taking on the market leaders, especially before qualifying starts. So, where can we find value at the Grand Prix? Felipe Massa is due a good drive and an interesting 25/1 is on offer for outright victory. An each-way punt on Massa, for the first three, seems a reasonable bet, especially if Raikkonen (7/1 for outright winner) has a poor qualifying session. The "first driver to retire" market offers much better value, although this is somewhat of a lottery. Rosberg and Klein, however, are attractively priced up at 14/1. Montagny heads the field here at 7/1. Schumacher and Alonso have battled to many close finishes so far this season. If you feel another close finish is on the cards then the 9/4 on offer for under three seconds in the "Winning margain" market could appeal to you. 3 - 13 seconds inclusive is a short looking 11/10. Over 13 seconds up at 7/4. Many are still awaiting Jenson Button to really shine this season. The young Brit' looks an appealing Even money, at this early stage, for a points finish in France. The safer option would be to await the results of qualification, however this price may well be heavily odds on by then, assuming Button puts in a good time.
