Tips for World Cup betting

Chris Woodruff
Bookmaker The 2006 World Cup football championship is about to start in Germany. Incredible masses of people will be watching the tournament. There will undoubtedly be record wagering on sports betting around the globe. For those interested in sports betting, and especially new sports punters, here is some advice for when you are betting.

It is easy to register and bet with a single sports betting agency but it is certainly in your best interests to obtain the best odds or value by having options. You will get better odds by shopping around and comparing the odds from different sports betting agencies before outlaying your hard earned money. You can join most sportsbook operations in minutes on the
Sportsbet
internet.

First you will need a betting bank. It does not need to be large because you can watch it grow! So you will need to operate this bank efficiently by being astute and careful.

The second requirement is a staking system (try a Google search on the net). There are different types of staking systems around but the basic philosophy is to bet in smaller amounts if you are losing ground with your bank and alternately when it has grown to another level you are then able to increase your bets. The staking system will allow you to bet at a level to protect your bank when you are backing losers and win more when you are having a good run.
So put simply, it is attack when you are winning and defend when you are losing.

Third, you will need to select your bets carefully. No sports betting punter can pick the winner every time, you must consider the big picture. In the long term the sports betting punter needs to get value (or over the odds) to maximise his bankroll growth. For example "value" is backing a $2.00 chance at $2.10 or better. So you need knowledge or good advice to be betting at value.

Fourth, you will need common sense. There will be winners and losers on every game at the 2006 World Cup Soccer in Germany. To increase your chances of being a winner you should be unemotional and consider anything that may affect the result, such as a sudden change in weather, a team resting its stars or anything else that could alter a particular team's performance. Your betting opportunities will occur when you can make a judgement which relates winning chance to value and this is certainly not going to occur with every game.

Finally, keep it simple. There will be an incredible amount of bet options on every game. Don't try to back five results all up or a football team to win two goals to one etc. It is hard enough to back a winner even with a simple "match winner" type bet.

So be unemotional and use your common sense! It really does pay off in the long term and it's a great feeling when you know you have beaten the odds which are quite often against you. So good luck and stay calm!
