NFL Week 14 Betting Preview2006-12-07
Richard Prew
Four weeks of the regular season left and the weekly schedule throws up several key games that will have bearings on play off seedings, home advantage and wild card places. In Week 13 there was one key result in the NFL East where the Cowboys new kicker made a last second field goal to beat the Giants to take a two game lead at the top of the division and go a long way to winning it. Elsewhere in the surprise of the week the improving Tennessee Titans beat the Indianapolis Colts on a spectacular last play 60 yard field goal and in Denver the Broncos continued to slump as Seattle kicked a last second field goal to beat them and stay comfortable atop the NFC West.
Week 14 as a betting medium contains plenty of strong teams at prohibitive odds on prices to beat also-rans. In a key NFC game the 8-4 New Orleans Saints visit the 8-4 Dallas Cowboys but sadly for them are injury hit at the wrong time of the season. Unfortunately for us the Dallas Cowboys, best priced 1/3, represent no value. Instead I looked at the less glamorous end of the schedule to see what was on offer, The answer, fortunately is that several games offer teams that I consider as strong favourites at either odds against or narrow odds on. These are as follows: The 6-6 Philadelphia Eagles play the 4-8 Washington Redskins. The Eagles pulled out a late win against the Panthers last weekend ad remain in contention for a wild card spot despite the loss of Donovan McNabb to a season ending injury. The Redskins season is over, they are playing a rookie QB and star running back Clinton Portis is out. The Eagles at 10/11 are a good price, and I expect them to win. The 5-7 Tennessee Titans have beaten the Giants and the Colts in the last fortnight and play perennial basement dwellers, the expansion franchise Houston Texans. The Titans have a future NFL superstar, rookie QB Vince Young who is now showing he is capable of winning games in this league. At 21/20 to win, the Titans are over-priced. The Minnesota Vikings visit divisional team the Detroit Lions, possibly the worst team in the league this year. Whilst the Vikings are no great shakes they shouldn't be the 6/5 odds against price you can find for this match up Selections Philadelphia Eagles to beat the Washington Redskins at 10/11 (VCBet) Tennessee Titans to beat the Houston Texans at 21/20 (UK Betting) Minnesota Vikings to beat the Detroit Lions at 6/5 (Stan James) News CategoriesRSS xml feed
